Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse comments from other people kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
