Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he loved betting on various card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming very competitive in these particular card games as he was competing against his father. After finishing secondary school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a bit and moved away to New York to participate in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were rough as he played countless hours and lost a majority of the time. He made some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He judged he might better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an attempt to acquire more rest and focus attention even more on poker.
The actual improvement in his abilities happened when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would frequently challenge one another. He was able to access a number of the foremost players in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would tweak his strategic thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.
Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie was a great student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the correct decision. He told Annie Duke to move out to Las Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the best female players the poker world today. Howard headed to Sin City in 1993 and played cash games for the next 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
